Fire in Field Behind Spinney Halt

On Thursday 30 July, PCSOs attended a field behind Spinney Halt following reports that a group of youths had started a fire in an area of dry grass. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service also attended and quickly brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further.

Officers carried out a search of the surrounding area; however, the youths involved were no longer present and could not be located.

With the current warm and dry weather conditions, grass fires can spread extremely quickly and cause significant damage to wildlife, open spaces, and nearby property. What may seem like harmless behaviour can quickly become a serious incident requiring an emergency response.

We would ask parents, carers and guardians to please speak with their children and teenagers about the dangers of starting fires, particularly in dry grass and woodland areas. A small flame can rapidly get out of control, putting people, animals and property at risk.
